TEACHERS

Leigh Anne Neal
Leigh Anne

Om Shanti! I am Leigh Anne Neal. My teaching is a harmonic blend of inspired alignment and creative vinyasa and my classes are warm-hearted and full of spirit. I enjoy opening minds and bringing students toward oneness within themselves. As a yogi, my goal is to teach from a place of openness. This means incorporating many forms and styles in class to give the student what they really need, which may not fit into one “type” of yoga.

As an ongoing student, I have studied with experienced teachers like Sean Tebor, Kathryn Budig, Kristin Chirhart, Stephanie Keech, Dana Flynn and TKV Desikachar, the son of Sri Krisnamacharya.

I began studying yoga and meditation 8 years ago, and have since received my RYT 200 from Kashi Ashram Atlanta in 2005. I also hold a certificate from the Asheville Yoga Center in Pre and Post Natal Yoga. I graduated from the 500 hour Advanced Teacher Training at Peachtree Yoga in Sandy Springs with Graham Fowler and Ursula Nix in 2008. In April 2006, I opened Nirvana Yoga in the heart of Cabbagetown and have since opened a larger studio location in Grant Park. I am also the director of teacher training at Nirvana Yoga studios.

I am also an avid reader, an aspiring novelist and a musician who teaches private piano and clarinet lessons in the community. I am a passionate yogini and teach always from the depth of my heart.

Alan Dowell

Alan's love for yoga came later in life - albeit just in time - and grew out of the natural intersection of his deep appreciation for movement, respect for the rhythm of all things, admiration for the power of the body to heal itself, and belief in the divinity of the individual. Having grown up the youngest of four children in a conservative military family somewhere in Europe, Alan remembers well how all he really ever wanted to do was dance. He tried figure skating, roller skating, even a little gymnastics. And yes, at long last and many years later, finally a dance class or two. While he admits that he wasn't that "good" at any of it, he nonetheless felt connected to movement, to rhythm, to others. It wasn't until his first vinyasa yoga class in 2006, though, that he reached a pivotal crossroad in bringing it all together, "...and that has made all the difference."

Alan received his 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification from Nirvana School of Classical Yoga in 2009. His teaching style has been described as relaxed and calm, but he encourages students to build strength and flexibility through mindful awareness even in the most restorative of classes. He believes that yoga is as much a spiritual practice as it is a physical one, and that gentle, reflective classes offer as much transformational energy as power vinyasa sequences. His classes therefore emphasize discovery from the inside out at a pace that is comfortable for the student.

Amanda McGee
Amanda

Amanda McGee (ERYT 200) is an artist and teacher who delights in the connections between our inside and outside worlds and all the ways in which existence reflects itself.

Her artwork mixes traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques in a sense of play and exploration, and she brings that same sentiment into the yoga studio.

Amanda's classes are full of challenging vinyasa (flowing postures with breath) that incorporate creative transitions and a strong focus on svadhaya (self study).

She received her yoga teaching certification from Nirvana School of Classical Yoga in 2008 and her BFA from Atlanta College of Art in 2001.
Amy Rakestraw
Amy

Amy fell in love with yoga several years ago and has since enjoyed deepening her practice and sharing her knowledge.

Through Nirvana School of Classical Yoga she became a RYT200 Hatha instructor in December 2009, but doesn’t stray too far from her original passion of Iyengar yoga. She has a gymnastics and dance background, and enjoys all aspects of fitness (especially running outside on a sunny day!)

With a playful manner and a warm spirit, her classes will challenge you, but remember: When the going gets tough, breathe, and smile; laughter makes anything easier! She is also certified in Pre/Post-natal yoga, is focusing on yoga therapy, and is currently pursuing her 500HR training.
Angela Beaver

Angela Beaver-Harris gained her 200-hour teacher training certification early in 2012 through Leigh Anne Neal.

She believes that the purpose of yoga is to bring self-awareness to light on many levels. It can break through barriers you have built up during your years on earth and will challenge you on a healthy level.

Angela's classes are a healthy, playful balance of effort and ease. She teaches classic Hatha Yoga with a focus on Vinyasa flow.

When not practicing yoga, Angela is also a Holistic Health Coach. She is the owner of Remedy, an Atlanta based business. Angela is also a local photographer. She enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and family (especially her furry babies).

Anna Boyle
Anna

Anna first tried yoga in college as another form of exercise, but she really began to develop her practice in 2009 to restore her body from illness. Anna has experienced the transformational power of yoga and believes in its healing abilities. She is passionate about sharing this with her students and helping them discover yoga's power in their own lives.

Anna completed her 200-hour training at Nirvana School of Classical Yoga with Leigh Anne Neal and is registered with Yoga Alliance. She is trained in classical ballet and modern dance and enjoys bringing movement and creativity to the mat. Anna also brings a playful, encouraging energy into her classes, and it's her hope that students leave feeling stronger and refreshed.

Off the mat, emily is a licensed medical social worker who works in hospice with terminally ill patients.
Jared Lawson
Jared

Jared Dawson completed his 200 hour training in Atlanta, GA with Leigh Anne Neal in 2011.

He started practicing yoga as therapy for the onset of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in 2006 and has been hooked since.

As an active writer in Atlanta's literary scene, reading aloud plays a large part in his classes. The role of the subtle/energetic body is explored and impacted through breathing, imagination, and good old fashioned sweating.

Jared lives in Cabbagetown with his pups, Gus and Meat Steak. When not teaching yoga he keeps busy making art, reading books, and hunting ghosts.

Jessica VonSchlichten
Jessica

I have been on the yogic path for many years and began teaching in 2009. I continue the practice of learning and teaching yoga with an open heart and mind, for it is in this way that possibilities are endless. My only intention in teaching yoga is to give of the practice that of which I have received. The transformative power of yoga has had a profound impact on my life bringing balance and harmony to my mind, body, and spirit. I believe yoga is available for all who seek it, regardless of age, flexibility, strength, or illness because it is by bringing awareness to our limitations that we learn to overcome the ego and experience what it really is to be free. With our breath as our guide we learn to build a strong and healthy physical form, release the mind and body from the stresses of daily life, and connect to the truest essence of our being. This union brings about an overall feeling of lightness and tranquility. Quite simply I am the guide that introduces you to your breath, and your breath is the best teacher you will ever have. Through this guidance your journey develops and healing begins. My class is a fun, safe space for self exploration designed to cultivate a healthy form, mind, and spirit. No expectations. Only adaptation, acceptance, and love.

Laura Anderson

Laura spent her first 18 years believing she was destined to a sedentary life, thanks to traumatic experiences in phys ed classes, but that all changed with her first yoga class in college. Laura dabbled in yoga for the next few years, but began her practice in earnest in 2008. It was then that she began to notice that yoga (well, along with medication) was the antidote to her anxiety, depression, and history of an eating disorder. Yoga quieted her mind and gave her a new perspective on her body and what it could do. Laura completed her 200 hour teacher training at Nirvana Yoga in 2010, and she currently teaches classes that challenge what the body can do and what the mind thinks are limitations, and encourages her students to laugh at themselves (and at her corny jokes), meet themselves where they are, and know THAT is perfection. Off the mat, Laura reads voraciously, rock climbs when she can afford it, is elated when people call her an athlete, and is beginning the (very) long journey to becoming a nurse. Tina Fey is her spirit animal.

Laura is the Director of Prevention and Outreach for Partnership Against Domestic Violence and Co-founder of United 4 Safety. She strives to find connectivity between serving survivors of violence and the practice of yoga.

Mary Margaret Wallace
Mary

Namaste! I'm Mary Margaret Wallace. My teaching style is a gentle intuitive flow. I strive to create a practice that strengthens and opens the physical, mental, and energetic bodies of my students. My classes involve allowing for the physical and spiritual needs of the student to guide his or her personal practice.

Through my own practice, I experienced a health transformation that has re-opened a plethora of doors and windows that at one time I thought might be closed forever. My personal experience has left me eager to show my students what yoga can do to raise their overall level of health. My intention is to provide an individual level of attention in order to allow a physical, mental, and spiritual development that will assist my students in achieving optimal health.

I began my yogic path six years ago when kismet led me to Leigh Anne Neal. Her open heart and vibrant energy sent me down the path towards fully restoring my health, and I am eternally grateful. I am a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) who was honored to be one of the first graduating class (2008) of the Nirvana School of Classical Yoga. I have also been certified as a pre- and post-natal yoga instructor. I enjoy the opportunity to connect with my students and help them on their way to discovering the personal practice that benefits them most.

Stefanie Boettle
Stefanie

Stefanie Boettle (RYT 200) originally from Germany has been teaching Yoga since 2009 when she moved to Atlanta/Georgia. As a professional dancer, Yoga came to her quite naturally about 12 years ago and has been the path of her life since. She actually has been doing Yoga long before she realized that it was Yoga what she had been doing for so long.

She received her first 200hour Teacher Training in Germany in 2008 and graduated from her second 200hour Teacher Training from Lotus College of Yoga in New York City in 2011. Stefanie is so happy to have found Yoga in her life and enjoys being a life-long student and loves to share through her classes.

She teaches a fluid and meditative vinyasa flow class. Most important in her classes is to assist students to find a practice that is right for them by giving modifications, hands on assists and alternative asanas. Her goal is to help students find their own way of Yoga.
Thiery Goodman
Thiery

Like a single voice in melody, it seems to me the most simple of what we do can elicit great beauty. This quality of organic simplicity makes the practice of yoga & Reiki effective, rewarding and adventurous. My experience of 30 years in the pursuit of wholeness, body, mind & spirit, only serves to strengthen the value I have for these traditions. No matter what, yoga & Reiki are always available.

In my first yoga classes in the early 70's, I was struck by the profound sense of well being brought on by yoga practice. During this time, I also had my introduction to energy healing.

I was ordained in 1987 by the New Seminary, an inclusive interfaith seminary in New York City, whose vision spawned the Association of Interfaith Ministers, its mission and motto being "Honoring All Paths". My purpose as a minister is to support and celebrate spiritual connection and growth where it has meaning for the individual.

I received Reiki I in 2001 and Reiki II in 2002 and began practice as a Reiki practitioner, currently ongoing. In 2005, I recieved Reiki III and have been teaching since. I earned my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate in February 2009 with Pranakriya and with TriYoga in March 2012. My studies with yoga & Reiki are continuous. I feel richly blessed to benefit from the wisdom of many and enjoy teaching and learning, learning and teaching, each new step revealed on the yogic and Reiki path.
